Horizontal Directional Drilling

Open Cut – Rural Works

Horizontal Directional Drilling

Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) provides an efficient alternative to traditional open-cut excavation, allowing pipework and ducting to be installed underground while significantly reducing disruption at the surface.

North East Pipelines has the capability to install pipework ranging from 63mm to 710mm in diameter, making directional drilling a practical solution for a wide range of projects.

The technique can reduce the need for extensive excavation, road closures and surface disruption while helping to minimise the overall environmental footprint of the works.

Where ground conditions, access or existing infrastructure make open-cut installation difficult, our directional drilling capability provides another option.

Our experience includes specialist crossings such as:

  • Watercourses and streams
  • Roads
  • Railways
  • Other difficult-to-access areas

Directional drilling can provide an effective solution where traditional excavation would be costly, disruptive or impractical.

By installing beneath the existing infrastructure, HDD can avoid the need for more disruptive solutions such as auger boring or pipe bridges in suitable applications.
